Postgradual education
Postdoc
Type of education: workshop
Duration: 4 years
Description: Within the framework of the CTMM project “Breast CARE” (Neoadjuvant Drug Treatment for Breast Cancer Response Prediction and Response Monitoring), studies are being conducted with the objective to improve the preoperative treatment strategy for breast cancer. Biopsy samples of newly diagnosed breast cancers are used for DNA and RNA analyses. Techniques such as comparative genomic hybridization or mRNA expression arrays are employed to discover abnormalities or expression patterns that predict response or resistance to chemotherapy. In addition, clinical validation is sought of potential predictive tests based on findings from animal models that are studied in other work packages of the project.
Requirements: The post-doc, together with a technician, will be responsible for the processing of the clinical samples, the development of clinical tests and their validation. He or she will be pivotal in the collaboration between the clinic, molecular pathology and the general pathology lab. He or she will also collaborate with other investigators of work packages within the project, including MRC Holland (MLPA tests), the pathology lab of the AMC (similar work in the advanced disease setting) and the proteomics group in Rotterdam. The post-doc should have formal training in molecular biology and should have affinity for the analysis of large databases and for statistics. He or she must be interested in the immediate clinical application of laboratory findings.
